U njemu su bosanski kraljevi primali izaslanstva, potpisivali ugovore i izdavali povelje. Vranduk je doživio pun razvoj u XV. stoljeću.
Stari grad u Vranduku pripada tipu brdskog utvrđenja.
Old Town Vranduk was most likely founded in the late 14th Century as a strategic defense to the entrance of what was then Bosnia proper. Up until the year 1463, it served Bosnian kings as they received foreign delegations, signed contracts and issued charters. Vranduk reached its peak of importance in the 15th Century.
Old Town Vranduk is classified as a hill fortress. Despite a number of reconstructions, the fortress has preserved its original shape similar to the early architecture of other European fortresses. In the Middle Ages the main tower was higher and the yard space divided by a wall. The small tower and east wall were built later and served to protect the fortress gate.
A number of archeological artifacts dating back to the Middle Ages and Ottoman rule have been found within the walls of Old Town, including bowls, jewelry, coins, tools, spurs, etc.
